Bungay Local Information

Bungay is an attractive and thriving market town situated on the beautiful river Waveney.

This small town boasts many historic attractions including the ruins of Bigod's Castle, the ancient Buttercross and The Old Borough well. Also Bungay offers The Fisher Theatre and lovely Churches, St. Mary's Church, unfortunately now redundant, is the site of the legend of the black dog of Bungay, Holy Trinity Church is the oldest building in the town still complete with it’s round Norman tower, Emmanuel Church and it’s beautiful garden and St. Edmund's Church, an ornate Catholic Church. You can also enjoy a gently ramble on the many walking routes in the area including BIGOD WAY (10 miles) BATH HILLS WALK (5.5 miles) RABBITSKIN RUN (2.6 miles) METTINGHAM CASTLE RAMBLE (5 miles) SCOTCHMAN'S LANE (4.8 miles) CONSTITUTION STROLL (4.6 miles). Also available are beautiful cycle routes such as BROOME AND DITCHINGHAM, EARSHAM, DENTON AND ALBURGH, HOMERSFIELD, THE SAINTS, METTINGHAM

Bungay has many individual and specialist shops and also has many fine restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and bars for refreshment. Whether you are looking for a light light lunch, afternoon tea or an evening meal Bungay offers a variety of venues.

Caravan Parks, Hotels and B&B’s are all available in the immediate locality to Bungay.

The town also hosts three special market days each year - Spring Garden, Antiques and the Christmas Markets which are always popular, attracting many people.
